Other Useful Links

Here is a list the the sites and references we found useful during our preparation or en route.

We have purchased and read dozens of books on the cruising lifestyle along with subscribing the Yachting Monthly, Cruising World and Practical Boatowner. All have contributed formulating our approach and giving us some background knowledge. Here are some of the books we considered most useful:

  • 'The Boat Owners Mechanical and Electrical Manual' by Nigel Calder"
  • 'The Cruising Manual' by Nigel Calder
  • 'Sell Up and Sail' by Geoff Pack

Wind Guru The best site we have found for weather is WindGuru. This gives a seven day forecast of wind direction, strength, cloud cover, precipitation, wave size and direction for just about anywhere. We always take a digital camera shot of the screen in internet cafes as we have yet to find a way of saving the screen to a memory key and printouts cost money.

YBW Site The YBW discussion forums were invaluable not only for finding a boat but also for researching all the hundreds of topics one needs to understand. Holding tanks, SSB transceiver installation, anti-fouling, anchors, etc, etc...

CruiserLog An informative website containing some useful information.

Royal Air Force Website

Someone has to pay for this lifestyle, and the Royal Air Force was good enough to employ Angus to fly for 25 years. A career that can be thoroughly recommended.
